Disabled-Led Leadership

Leadership at Uncurbed is about how creativity and knowledge shape decisions, and how power is shared.

As a disabled-led organisation, leadership at Uncurbed always includes lived experience, but it’s also about artistic vision, sector insight, and the skills needed to drive lasting change.

What does Disabled-led mean?

Being disabled-led means disabled people set the direction – artistically, organisationally, and strategically. Leadership comes from creative expertise, sector knowledge, and lived experience, ensuring decisions are rooted in the realities and ambitions of disabled people.

Shared Power in Leadership

Leadership at Uncurbed is collective. In rehearsals, projects, and governance, decisions and power are shared.

Co-Chair Model

Shared power starts at the top with inclusive governance. Our board is led through a Co-Chair model that balances strategy, sector knowledge, and lived experience. It’s leadership rooted in our values, shaped by our people, and designed for the future. By modelling inclusive and sustainable governance, we aim to influence how leadership looks across the arts and charity sector.

Sector Influence

We don’t aim to be included – we aim to lead. For change to last, the cultural sector needs people, models, and voices that challenge the status quo and open new possibilities. That’s where Uncurbed comes in. Through partnerships, performances, and platforms, we share our approach and push for systemic change.

Leadership Development

Leadership is our method, and developing the next generation of leaders is central to our mission. We are building clear routes for disabled artists and change-makers to grow from first engagement into positions of creative, organisational, and sector influence.

More about our practice

Leadership drives how power is shared and how change happens. Our accessible practice is the foundation of every space we create, every process we design, and every performance we share. Co-production is how we share power, embed lived experience, and ensure creativity is collective.
