About Article 19
Movement, projection and sound collide in an installation-performance about choice, control and the uncomfortable space between a right promised and a right experienced. Taking the right to independent living as its starting point, Article 19 confronts the gap between freedom on paper and freedom in practice.
UNCRPD
Created in response to Article 19 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Article 19 draws on lived experience, research and the Convention itself, the work brings freedom, choice and control up against assessment, permission and the absurdity of having the ordinary stuff of life decided for you.

Article 19 In Your Space
Article 19 sits between installation, live art and performance. Its combination of movement, projection and sound creates a strong presence within a space, while allowing audiences to stop, watch, move around it or stay for the full performance. The work can adapt to different spaces and audience configurations, including 360° and end-on presentation. It can stand as a destination in its own right or form part of a wider audience journey.
| In Your Space | At a Glance |
|---|---|
| Transform your space — movement, projection and sound create an installation audiences encounter within the space | Standalone installation-performance |
| Adapt the viewpoint — audiences can encounter the work in 360° or end-on, depending on the space | Flexible audience configuration |
| Draw audiences in — audiences can stop, watch, move around or stay for the full performance | Central encounter in larger programme potential |
| Spark conversation — rights, autonomy, choice and control | Performance + workshop/discussion potential |
Further possibilities
Article 19 can be presented as a standalone installation-performance or sit within a wider programme of performance, conversation and creative activity. We’re interested in working with partners to explore how the installation can respond to different spaces including Theatres, Galleries, Universities, and Libraries.
Previously presented at: Salford Museum & Art Gallery, Levy Fringe Festival at Levenshulme Old Library, Social Murder Festival at Manchester Met University.
Content & sensory information: Article 19 deals with systems, independent living, care, assessment and autonomy. It includes repetitive and high-contrast projected imagery, overlapping voices and layered sound, which at times combine to create an intense sensory experience.
